Outfit of the Day: Motorcycle Jackets and Nebula Prints

So, I've realised that most of my outfit posts mainly consist of me wearing dresses. In reality, I'm a shorts person. I literally go everywhere wearing shorts. I find them so convenient. Very easy to move around in.

This isn't exactly an outfit I'd wear on a daily basis. In fact, it's completely out of my personal style. But hey, what's wrong with being different once in a while? 

I'm also still very much in love with Galaxy prints. 

This outfit is pretty much my attempt to carry off an edgy look. The clothes I'm wearing are actually stuff I bought a long time ago, recycled to create a new look. What do you think?

A bustier top, polyvester high waisted shorts, motorcycle jacket and a pair of boots. I think the Nebula print on the bustier gives a nice pop of colour there. Don't you?

I wouldn't recommend wearing this to work though. Probably on days when you either want to look scary or beat someone up. I kid. You can pretty much wear it for parties, or an outing in broad daylight, if you're daring enough.

Leopard Print and Men

Now, leopard print on women has always been a subject of debate in the fashion world. If done right, it can come off as luxurious, sexy and somewhat elegant. If done wrong, however, you might end up looking like a trashy transvestite.

So in conclusion, leopard print on women, do it right, then hell freaking yes, it will look extremely sexy. 

But leopard print on men?

Please keep in mind that I am speaking of the print. Not of genuine fur. I am not an advocate of animal cruelty, and I will never, ever, wear genuine fur. I am strongly against wearing genuine fur on any part of your body.

I was going through the Burberry Men's Fall/Winter 2013 collection the other day, and I'll be really frank here, I would have loved it, until I saw the leopard print.

It hurt my eyes so badly I cried. 

I don't know about you girls, but I find nothing manly about a man in leopard print, or animal print. It reminds me too much of cruel hunters who put animal heads on their walls as trophies. It is disgusting. True, a bit of animal print adds a touch of style. But all over? No. It's too overwhelming. 

Personally, if a guy clad in animal print tried to ask me out on a date, no matter how hot he looks, I'd turn him down. Because at first glance, I would begin to question not only the sexuality of the man, I would also wonder if he was rendered temporarily blind when choosing his outfit for the day, and has not looked in the mirror since. 

Unless, well, you're actually Tarzan. Who swings on vines, and has the ability to tree surf. And kill evil tigers with his bare hands.

Fashion Review: Galaxy Prints

I'm probably blogging about this a little bit late in season, but I feel that I must. 'Cos it's been such a huge hype, though I rarely see people wear them in Malaysia.

I don't know about you, but from the moment I laid eyes on those prints, it was love at first sight. The only reason why I haven't gotten anything in this particular print is because it's so difficult to find one at an affordable price, and I have a thin wallet.

I will admit though, I doubt these prints are for everyone. Because wearing galaxy prints and strutting around the streets of KL would definitely make you stick out like a sore thumb. Some people might prefer something a wee bit understated. But hey, why blend in when you can stand out?

Isn't it beautiful? 

I don't know about you, but I find that nebula prints lend a more fantasy-like aura for any article of clothing, and a more futuristic appearance. Some people might find it hard to accept, because the print itself is loud and imposing. But to me, I think it's absolutely lovely. 

The downside is, I'm not too sure if this is a trend that will last. I just can't seem to see it as an evergreen thing. But then again, I could be wrong.

Here's a tip. If you planning on wearing anything galaxy printed, make sure you pair it with understated colours. The print itself is attention-grabbing. And there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.You wouldn't want to look like an overly dressed clown. 

The verdict:

It's cool. And if you're a hipster or into indie, you'd probably love it to bits. I would definitely wear it. But I'm not too sure if it might get a bit overrated. Cos to me, when anything hipster gets overrated, it ultimately becomes boring.

Fashion Review: Super Bold Prints

Status: Failing miserably at concentrating in work due to feeling overly excited towards the upcoming holidays.

If you've kept up with runway news, you'll probably know that super bold prints are among the trends to look out for this Spring.

The good thing about super bold prints, is that people can spot you from about a mile away. You'd definitely stand out in a crowd. The bad thing about them, is that there is a huge risk that you could end up looking like a clown. 

Now, it's not like I can't stand them... It's just that super bold prints tend to be too loud. I mean, there's a fine line between standing out tastefully, and standing out trashily. Too much of them hurt my eyes. It's like entering a room with nothing but pink paint on the walls and pink furniture. I like fashion done with variety, but tastefully so.

I also have this perception that clothes that are too bold take the attention off your face. As a rule, whatever you wear, from your clothes to your accessories, to your hair and your make up, should always compliment you. Not steal your spotlight. I mean, you'd want people to look at your face and say that you're beautiful, instead of saying: "nice clothes!" If that ever happens, take off whatever you're wearing, and burn them.

And this is just the kind of danger that super bold prints give. 

My advice? If you like this sorta thing, tone it down with a more basic colour. 

The verdict:

If I were to be completely honest, I'm not liking the whole super bold print thing. I actually wish it was one of those trends that they pack away in a box that should never be opened. There really is such a thing as being "too bold", and I believe they call it stupid. I will admit, however, that bold prints are a nice option if you're bored of the usual plaid, striped and polka dot patterns. 

Nothing against bold print fans.... Just... Tone it down a little, will ya?
